The owner and director of the Bela Gallery, Carolyn Mosier said she is “delighted and privileged to be able to unveil the newest painting of artist Emily Dykes Pugmire. The canvas is a touching painting of the Savior Jesus Christ.”
The 30 x 40 oil on canvas painting will be on display through June 30, 2010. Many of Pugmire’s other paintings are also on display at the Bella Gallery.
Pugmire said the painting was inspired by the scripture, Isaiah 49:16 “Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.”
“This painting is a representation of the truth that our Savior will always remember us,” Pugmire said. “The root of the word ‘graven’ is grave—how appropriate that we are graven upon his hands as we are also literally lifted out of the graves of spiritual and physical death.”
